Doctor Who: The Essential Guide. Twelfth Doctor Edition.

The first ever episode of Doctor Who was broadcast by the BBC at 5.15pm on Saturday 23rd November 1963. A television legend was born.

Now, over fifty years later, we can look back and see an unrivalled success that the original producers of the programme and the people who watched it could never have imagined. The first mass television audience was for the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II - only ten years before. The idea that any TV series could last for so long was simply unthinkable.

But Doctor Who has always done the unthinkable, the impossible, things that no one else has even dreamed of. There is nothing else like it on television - there never has been and there never will be. Like the Doctor himself, the series is unique.

No single book can ever give the full story of Doctor Who on television - never mind the thousands of other stories about the Doctor in comics, novels, short stories, audio adventures and even movies. But in this book we will cover the most important, the most essential moments of the Doctor's enthralling journey through eternity.
