Jeunesse Dorée by Gerald Leslie Brockhurst (1890-1978).
'Jeunesse Dorée' means 'gilded youth' in French and was a term applied to wealthy and fashionable young society people. For this painting, Brockhurst used the model Kathleen Woodward who he had worked with previously. He went on to marry her in 1947. He painted Woodward, who he called Dorette, many times in the 1930s, often combining a Rennaisance format with Symbolist colours and intensity, as he has done here. This picture was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1934 and the 2nd Lord Leverhulme bought it on the first day of the show. © Richard Woodward
Gerald Leslie Brockhurst was born in Birmingham. having won several prizes at the the Royal Academy, he went on to have a successful career as a society portraitist both in Britain and then the USA where he settled in 1939.

Standard UK delivery is by Royal Mail and costs £3.50 but may be more for heavier parcels. Most items take between 1 and 5 working days to be delivered.
We use Royal Mail's airmail service to post overseas. This can take from 1 to 4 weeks and costs from £10.00 in Europe and from £15.00 for the rest of the world. As with UK delivery, this will be more for heavier parcels. Please be aware there may be local duty and/or taxes payable on goods delivered outside the UK. National Museums Liverpool are not responsible for paying these charges and they are not included in your payment to us.

Returns
If you are not totally satisfied with your order, please return it to us. Goods must be returned in the same condition you received them within 45 days of receiving the order. We will issue a refund or replacement at your request subject to certain conditions being met.
