Description

This reproduction of the advertising poster for the Liverpool Academy of Arts First Annual Exhibition 1901 was designed by J. Herbert McNair. The poster has a silk finish.

The Liverpool Academy of Arts was founded in 1810 as a regional equivalent of the Royal Academy. Set up by William Roscoe, the academy had members such as John Rathbone, Richard Ansdell, Thomas Chubbard, Alfred William Hunt and Charles Barber, it was a popular and active part of Liverpool artist life, aiming to make art accessible to those who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to connect with it. The Liverpool Academy aimed to afford the chance for local people of all means to acquire work for their own homes.
