Description

Mrs Tinne's wardrobe provides us with a snap-shot of changing fashions, as worn by a middle-class woman in Liverpool between the two World Wars. This unique collection of clothes once belonged to Emily Margaret Tinne (1886-1966), a member of a wealthy family of sugar merchants and ship-owners.

There are more than 700 items in the collection, but Emily once owned many more that have not survived. This selective catalogue highlights and illustrates in full colour some 280 of the best-preserved and most representative items. It includes examples of Emily Tinne's daywear, eveningwear, outdoor clothes, swimwear, shoes, hats and accessories. It also features many of her children's clothes and includes a full inventory of the entire collection.
