Description
Refractive Pool: Contemporary Painting in Liverpool by Brendan Lyons and Josie Jenkins.
Refractive Pool is a project that was established by Josie Jenkins and Brendan Lyons to document and celebrate contemporary painting in Liverpool. This book forms part of that project and it contains portraits of 38 artists currently based in and around the city. These unique, layered images were produced by combining new paintings with photographic portraits of each of the individual artists. These striking images are accompanied by the thoughts and words of the painters themselves. The book features the newly commisioned poem The Studio, written by Paul Farley and themed around his memories of the city and the practice of painting.
Josie Jenkins and Brendan Lyons are artists and co-founders of Refractive Pool. They live and work in Liverpool and both have exhibited widely across the UK. They are co-creators of the exhibition Refractive Pool: Contemporary Painting in Liverpool at the Walker Art Gallery in 2022.
Paul Farley is a Liverpool-born poet. His most recent collection The Mizzy was published by Picador in 2019.
